Save £70 on this capable 4TB WD SN850X SSD from Overclockers

We haven’t seen too many recent reductions on this larger 4TB WD SN850X for quite some time, making this hefty £70 price cut from Overclockers on what’s easily one of the quickest and most capable PCIe 4.0 drives all the more noteworthy. It brings the drive down to £200, giving you a price of £50 per terabyte of storage – that’s a bargain for one this speedy.

The SN850X makes for one of the fastest and best gaming SSDs out there, with maximum sequential read and write speeds of 7300MB/s and 6600MB/s. Its random performance, a better indicator of real-world game load times, is also intense – up to 1.2M IOPS for reads and 1.1M IOPS for writes. For context, the best PCIe 4.0 SSDs before the SN850x were in the 0.7 to 0.8M IOPS region, making this a significant step forward. The only way to get anything quicker is to go for a PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD, which at the moment are still hilariously expensive at this capacity.

With those speeds in mind, the SN850X also smashes Sony’s requirements for PS5 SSDs, and this is one of the best options available there, too. You may not get a heatsink on this specific model, but they’re a low cost addition to make them fully compatble for use in a PS5 or PS5 Slim. For that purpose, Amazon has this £8 option which we’ve recommended before. With this, it means the SN850X is fully PS5-proof. The fact also remains you’re getting 4TB of storage, giving you a lot of additional space compared to the internal SSD of either the PS5 or PS5 Slim.

If you’re after an immensely quick PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD for a rather good price these days that also comes in quite a large capacity, this WD Black SN850X deal from Overclockers is not to be missed.

This Famicom-inspired 8BitDo retro mechanical keyboard has hit a new low price at Amazon

8BitDo makes some fantastic retro-inspired kit and controllers, and their lovely Retro Mechanical Keyboard has been a real head turner in recent months. It’s one that takes pride of place on our list of the best mechanical keyboards list for this very reason, as well as the fact it’s just a wonderfully crafted product that’s sure to appeal to retro gaming and mechanical keyboard nuts alike. From Amazon at the moment, this Famicom variant is down to £63, marking out a solid saving on its £85 list price, and bringing it down to a new low price. Not a bad way to start the year.

The real kicker of this keyboard is its retro design, and 8BitDo has certainly leaned in to it. This Famicom variant comes in an excellent cream and burgundy colourway, the same as the console, and loooks wonderful. Its TKL layout is sensible and ideal for space savers who don’t want to sacrifice too much functionality in the name of more desk space, although the ANSI US layout may take some getting used to for some folks. This ‘board is also wonderfully finished with dye-sublimated PBT keycaps and handy extras including dials for volume and connectivity. Around the back, there is a USB-C port for charging or wired connectivity, and four jacks for plugging in the keyboard’s ‘super programmable buttons’ which look identical to the A & B buttons on old NES and Famicom controllers.

Inside, 8BitDo’s keyboard comes with the wonderfully clicky Kailh Box White V2 switches, which are lubricated for smoother actuation, and come with a lighter 45g actuation force for snappier inputs. If you don’t want to use these switches though, then this keyboard is also hot-swappable, so you can swap them out for any other compatible MX-style 3 and 5 pin switches that you like. You get full NKRO for as many simultaneous inputs as you wish, and an aluminium plate inside for extra structural rigidity. Connectivity is handled by either the bundled 2.4GHz USB receiver, Bluetooth, or over a wired connection. The only thing missing here is RGB lighting, which is a small sacrifice for such a lovely keyboard.

If you want to grab a lovely, retro-inspired mechanical keyboard for a brilliant price, this Amazon reduction on the lovely 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard is well worth your time.

The brand new M4-powered Mac Mini is down to a great price from Amazon

I’d probably argue that Apple’s recent brand new M4 Mac Mini release has constituted one of the most exciting releases for the product line since, well, the M2 option a couple of years ago. It comes with a redesigned, smaller chassis, even beefier internals, and most integrally, an upgrade to the base model so that it comes with 16GB RAM. From Amazon, this new model is available for £569 at the moment, which is a decent price on this brand new Mac Mini.

As much as the M1 chip that released nearly five years ago now represented a truly generational leap in performance against the Intel-based Macs in the pre-Apple Silicon world, the M4 chip continues Apple’s incremental upgrades of previous years. As much as this is the case, the M4 Mac Mini is no slouch. With a 10 core CPU and 10 core GPU and improvements in both single and multi core performance, it’s quite the beefy choice for everything from basic computing to those more intensive workloads, especially for such a small desktop machine.

The upgrade to 16GB of RAM (or unified memory in Apple’s case) is useful for the sake of giving this machine more headroom for creative tasks such as video editing and even simple multi-tasking, while meaning you can take full advantage of its even more powerful internals, too. This base-spec M4 Mac Mini also comes with a 256GB SSD, which is sufficient for your programs but we’d recommend getting a fast portable SSD or other external or network-attached storage if you’ll be doing video editing or storing large media libraries which you can have quick and easy access to. Of course, you can also use any number of USB drives or external HDDs you may have laying around, but a fast portable SSD will provide quicker access.

The other big difference with the new Mac Mini is simply how small it is. The older model carried dimensions of 7.75 x 7.75 x 1.4-inches, while the new option is 5 x 5 x 2 inches. It may be slightly taller, but is shorter and narrower. With this in mind, the port selection has only improved in spite of the M4’s diminuitive size. The front supports a pair of USB-C inputs, while the rear I/O totals three Thunderbolt 4-capable USB-C ports, as well as a full-size HDMI, a 3.5mm headphone jack and Gigabit Ethernet. The only slight oddity here is that the power button is on the underside.

If you want to grab a brand new Mac Mini for a bit less, this Amazon deal on the new M4 option is well worth your time.

Samsung’s 980 Pro 2TB Heatsink SSD is a bargain with this limited-time Amazon deal

In spite of Amazon’s ‘Last Minute Deals’ for the festive season ending yesterday, there are still some fantastic deals floating around. For instance, there’s a limited-time deal going on Samsung’s 980 Pro 2TB Heatsink model which can make for an ideal last-minute Christmas gift for someone in your life who needs more PC or PS5 storage on the cheap at £119. It can even be delivered tomorrow. As this is also a limited time offer, you may have to move quickly if you want to secure it.

If we’re going on pure speeds alone, the 980 Pro is easily one of the best gaming SSDs out there today. With quoted speeds of up to 7000MB/s, it’s one of the quickest SSDs out there, alongside the likes of the WD Black SN850X, or a PCIe 5.0 SSD, which will cost you a lot more. This also means it smashes Sony’s stringent requirements for a PS5 SSD, and marks itself out as one of the best PS5 SSDs, too. Moreover, the random IOPS figures of up to 1M should also make load times for games especially snappy, too.

Returning back to the fact this is a great drive for PS5, Samsung also bundles a heatsink with the 980 Pro, too, helping to save you a little bit more money in the process, given they can run you an extra tenner or so on top of the price of the SSD itself if you don’t have one. Moreover, the fact you’re getting a 2TB drive will nearly increase the total capacity of your PS5 drive by four-fold, with the standard PS5’s 825GB SSD, while it can also treble the storage on offer with a Slim model and its 1TB internal drive. 1TB of space will allow you to install a pretty good quantity of games on your PS5, as well as on your PC, alongside everything from an OS install to plenty of apps and media files.

Also, even if we’re well over a year on from the firmware issues that were present on the 980 Pro, it’s important to note that Samsung has addressed them that had caused the drives to revert to read only, effectively locking. The updated firmware is available from Samsung’s Magician website, and takes only a few minutes to install.

£120 for as capable and capacious of a drive as the Samsung 980 Pro 2TB with heatsink from Amazon is excellent, and if you want a drive for PC or PS5, then this is one to consider.

Get the Logitech K400 Plus for its best price since Black Friday on Amazon

Logitech’s K400 Plus has been a part of the brand’s range of keyboards for what feels like forever, having been first introduced a decade or so ago. It’s a keyboard I’ve contemplated purchasing on a few occasions to pair with a media centre PC, sim racing rig or a games console to provide a convenient, all-in-one experience. At Amazon, it’s down to £25, giving you a capable all-in-one wireless keyboard for a solid price – in fact, that’s its best price since the Black Friday madness a few weeks ago.

This is a convenient keyboard that brings with it a smaller 65 percent-type layout with arrow keys and a function row, as well as the usual range of alphanumeric keys. It’s a comfortable layout to use, and is ideal for this smaller chassis that also packs in a trackpad on the right hand side – if you’re used to a laptop-style form factor, then this layout should be familar to you. The only thing to watch out for is the smaller Enter key, which may take some getting used to. The K400 Plus’ scissor keys feel pretty good to type on too, with a comfortable typing experience and solid travel.

The presence of a trackpad means this is a keyboard that can be used right in front of you, without any need to hook up any extra peripherals, making it a great choice to use on your lap, or where you may not have access to a proper desk or surface to put the K400 Plus on. We’ve seen lap-based keyboards before in varying form factors in the past with keyboards built into a lapboard with a mouse mat for putting a separate mouse on, or ones that also bundle a separate mouse in, to o, from the likes of Corsair and Razer. The K400 Plus gives you everything you need in a light and portable shell, and is a keyboard you could chuck in your bag if you wanted to bring it to work or use it to type up a paper on the go. Its grey and yellow styling is also pretty nice, too.

You also get useful creature comforts including a simple 2.4GHz connection with a range of up to 10 metres meaning it works over pretty long distances – handy if you’re far away from the device you want to connect the K400 Plus to. A battery life of up to 18 months is also handy for added peace of mind, while there is also support for Logi’s Options software if you want extra means for customisation.

If you’re after a convenient keyboard for use with a living room PC or otherwise, you’ll want to check out this Amazon bargain on the Logitech K400 Plus.

This potent PowerColor RX 7900 XT is down to just $630 from Amazon USA

AMD’s RX 7900 XT bafflingly launched at close to $800, which made it quite overpriced when it first released, and thankfully we’ve seen prices drop on this GPU to much more acceptable levels. A case in point is this current reduction from Amazon USA on this PowerColor Hellhound variant, which has seen a big $100 price cut from Amazon USA to bring it down to $630, which is a seriously solid deal.

The fact is that the 7900 XT is a powerful graphics card for 1440p and 4K gaming, whatever price it is. In our 7900 XT review, we noted its performance was comparable to Nvidia’s last-gen RTX 3080 and 3080 Ti, and sits well against the 4080. It’s actually somewhat behind the 4070 Super in RT-based workloads, but pulls ahead in the likes of Control, compared against the 4070 Super and 4070 Ti non-Super at 1440p. At Doom Eternal, we recorded an average 4K frame-rate over 200fps, while in the more demanding F1 22 we saw over 150fps. Gears 5, Control and Red Dead Redemption 2 were all comfortably over 60fps at 4K too, even with settings cranked.

As well as being a great card for 1440p and 4K gaming, the 7900 XT also comes with a solid complement of features that also make this a formidable choice for content creation workloads. There’s support for AMD’s new media engine, which brings support for AV1 encoding. Moreover, the 7900 XT also comes with support for both HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1, the latter being a future-looking display standard that could give the 7900 XT better utility as new high-res, high-refresh displays are released.

This specific Hellhound model is also one of the more left-field choices compared to other options, with a grey colour scheme that’s accented by bright blue lighting on the card’s triple fan cooling setup. It’s got quite an interesting look to it, and would pair well inside a black build for some accented colour, or if you’re going for a meaner look.

At $630, the RX 7900 XT becones a much more compelling purchase, especially with Nvidia’s Super cards in mind. If you’re after an excellent GPU for 1440p and 4K gaming, then this is certainly a deal to consider.

Grab the excellent Nvidia Shield TV Pro for just £159 from Amazon

Very few devices can hold a candle to their claim of a ‘do anything’ device, but if you’re after a capable streaming box that goes beyond the traditional remit of one for a good price, this deal on the Nvidia Shield TV Pro from Amazon may well be for you. They’ve knocked a little bit off its £190 list price to bring it down to a more stomachable £159, which is easily its best price since Black Friday.

The Shield TV Pro perhaps takes the title of being the ultimate media box, with all manner of functions and features that seek to justify that high markup – including AI upscaling for video. Fundamentally, it can breathe a new lease of life into a TV that’s got very little in the way of smart TV functionality in a way that more affordable boxes don’t. As it runs Android, there’s support for oodles more in the way of applications than more standard smart OSes will. It’s a slick interface that supports all the major streaming apps, as well as server apps such as Plex – if you’ve got a cloud server full of stuff you want to access in a convenient manner, the Shield TV Pro can also handle that.

It also brings support for Dolby Atmos (in supported content) for more immersive audio. If you’ve got a TV that supports it, the Shield TV Pro can also give you Dolby Vision capabilities for an even better image, with better contrast and brightness, besides supporting other HDR standards, too. The Nvidia Tegra X1+ processor is up to a quarter faster than the previous generation, according to Nvidia, as well as also bringing with it the aforementioned AI upscaling for sharper images. You also get a Chromecast built in for convenient screen mirroring on compatible devices – that’s a bigger help than you may initially find, if you’re anything like me, and you end up casting stuff a lot.

Oh, and did I mention you also get access to GeForce Now? Nvidia’s cloud gaming service is also understandably present on the Shield TV Pro, giving you access to a library of titles, no console or PC required, whether you’re on the free tier or on a paid level. If you’ve also got a Steam library full of games, you can integrate it with GeForce Now, and play any one of the supported titles (albeit in a vanilla form), without booting up your PC. There are also games built in to the Shield TV Pro that are unique to the device, giving you even more stuff to play with.

The Shield TV Pro makes for quite a powerful piece of kit, and this discount on it from Amazon is certainly welcome. If you want to grab an excellent media box that gives you oodles of features, the Shield TV Pro is the ultimate choice.

A lucrative cashback offer makes this 2TB Samsung 990 Pro just £110 from Scan Computers

Samsung’s brisk 990 Pro in 2TB form is one of the quickest and most powerful gaming SSDs money can buy, and if you missed out on any number of Black Friday deals on it a few weeks ago, it appears Samsung is saving your bacon thanks to quite a lucrative cashback offer. From Scan Computers, this drive is £160 in 2TB flavour – nothing to write home about normally – but with a £50 cashback promo from Samsung, it brings the price of this drive down to £110 – that’s much better,

In taking a look at the drive itself, this 990 Pro model is a fantastic solution for either PC or PS5 use. For the latter, it offers speeds that smash Sony’s stringent requirements in a massive capacity, making it one of the best PS5 SSDs out there. You will just need to add a heatsink to make it the complete package, but these are inexpensive these days. For years, we’ve recommended this £8 option. Getting a 2TB drive also gives you a lot more space to play with, adding a lot to either the 825GB internal space on the base-model PS5 or doubling the existing 1TB drive on the Slim model.

For PC use, the presence of 2TB of storage is handy for using the 990 Pro as a boot drive, to store a larger Steam library and a whole lot more. You’ve just got to make sure your motherboard supports PCIe 4.0 – that’s basically anything from the last four or so years – and that you’ve got a spare M.2 slot in which to put the drive. The 990 Pro is one of the best gaming SSDs money can buy today, especially with its insane speeds of up to 7450MB/s reads and 6950MB/s writes. Its random performance is also excellent too, with speeds of up to 1.6M IOPS reads, giving you especially quick load times in games and other programs.

If you’re after a speedy SSD that also gives you loads of storage to boot, this 2TB Samsung 990 Pro model is an excellent option with this cashback promo in mind.

This John Lewis deal makes the Sony WH-1000XM5s cheaper than Black Friday

Sony’s new WH-1000XM5s were the long-awaited successors to the brand’s previous XM3 and XM4 noise cancelling headphones and somehow improved on virtual perfection with a sleek redesign, more detailed audio and increasingly optimised active noise cancellation. From John Lewis with code MYJLAUDIO15 if you’re a My JL member (free signup) you can net these class-leading noise-cancelling cans for £208 – that’s a notable discount.

The number of noise-cancelling mics inside the XM5s has doubled to eight from four, and the cans’ new processor has allowed for clever tech such as noise cancelling that automatically optimises itself based on your surroundings. In addition, Sony has improved the responsiveness of its Wear Detection feature that automatically stops and starts audio when you take the headphones on and off, while codec support now includes dual-device LDAC alongside SBC and AAC over Bluetooth connectivity, and battery life is identical as the XM4s with up to 30 hours of runtime. In addition, the audio with the XM5s is wider, with a more refined low-end and even more detail, making them a highly engaging listen.

There is a drastic redesign against their predecessors, as Sony has attempted to streamline the XM5s in the name of reducing any unwanted wind noise. With this, they carry a more refined look with a sleeker profile. They’re also ever-so slightly lighter at 250g, while this has had the unfortunate casualty of reducing their folding ability – they now only fold flat.

The Sony WH-1000XM5s are some seriously excellent noise-cancelling headphones, and this incredible John Lewis deal on them is certainly not to be missed.

There’s a hidden discount going on this massive 20TB WD Elements Desktop HDD

Western Digital has quietly added quite a hefty price cut on their own website at the moment, meaning it’s possible to net this quite frankly huge 20TB Elements Desktop HDD for just £268. It’s been marked down already to £318, but adding it to your basket gives you another £50 off with no need for a code. It works out to a price of just £13.40 per TB for a brand new drive – result.

The big thing with this drive is quite simply the size. 20TB is a lot of space, making it an ideal means for storing a lot of high-res media files on, whether it’s music or video. Or, as an add-on to a NAS for adding even more capacity. You could also conceivably use this WD Elements drive as an external option for storing a burgeoning Steam library on, although load times won’t be as snappy as compared to any of the best gaming SSDs – such is the way of the mechanical hard drive. In addition, you could do what I do and have it as a powered drive that’s plugged into your PC as a backup drive for all the data on your PC, such as high-res video files or music, for instance.

Here’s some proof of that extra checkout discount.

With that in mind, this drive would also make a handy option for use with either an Xbox Series X or PS5 as a plug-in option for more storage for storing games. Of course, a drop in SSD upgrade is likely to give you a better overall option as you can actually play games from that SSD, as opposed to using your drive as ‘cold’ storage. In other words, you can use this drive like any other external drive you plug in. You can store games on it, but to play them, you’ll need to move them over to your console’s internal SSD for them to actually be playable.

For those afer a lot of storage space for, in this day and age, peanuts in terms of price, this WD Elements 20TB drive makes for some incredible value for money.
